River Fishing
The
River Eden is a large river which can be quite intimidating to the newcomer
and the fishing can be challenging at times - I can show you methods to
cope with most situations - we can have fishless days but they are usually
rare as there are good numbers of
fish in the river
We
are blessed with some fantastic fishing in this part of Northern England
- with the milder winters we are experiencing at the moment water temperatures
are higher at the start of the season and the dry fly fishing can be good
from day one (March 15th) with relatively good hatches of Large dark Olive
(Baetis Rhodani)
The best of the daytime sport is April, May and June when dry fly and
spider fishing can be at a premium but as long as you have the full range
of fishing disciplines (upstream nymph, duo, streamers etc.) at your disposal
you should be able to go to the river at any time in any month throughout
the season and have the chance of sport
I can book access to many beats on the River Eden - once famous for
it's runs of spring salmon, it is still a great Wild Brown Trout and Grayling
fishery (see rates and conditions)
We can look at rivercraft, where the fish are likely to be and why, their
food, selecting a suitable imitation and different ways of presenting
it.
Another great river I have access to is the Eden's main tributary - The
River Eamont.
The beautiful clear waters of the Eamont flow out of Ullswater and contain
some very good Brown trout.
For
those who would like the challenge of fishing some smaller rivers in the
area - you could
get on a pair of knee pads and I can supply you with a small rod for stalking
the fish in these waters.
