Welcome to The Eden Angler
Fly fishing the River Eden and the Lakes District
Coronavirus (COVID-19) UPDATE:
Following the Government announcement on Sunday 11th May, fishing in England was allowed from Wednesday 13th May. Our rivers are now open for business and so am I.
I can now offer Guiding and tuition as long as we can adhere to appropriate safeguards to comply with government advice and I will be guided by the 'Angling Trust' advice listed below:
"ANGLING TRUST ADVICE"
As a guide or ghillie when with clients you are in a working environment and therefore government guidance on workplace safety should be observed at all times.
Every guide will need to make their own decision as to whether they are able to offer the level of service and experience their clients would expect under current guidelines – for those who decide to offer services we would advise the following points are adhered to:
- Guides/ Ghillies/ Instructors must not make physical contact with clients and at all time maintain social distancing guidance.
- A dummy rod or set up must be used to explain techniques from a safe distance, no direct contact with client or equipment.
- No sharing of cars, equipment or physical contact of any sort.
- Care should be taken to ensure that the same person throughout the day ties all knots, lands all fish and handles their own equipment only.
- 1 client to 1 guide ratio unless clients are members of the same household.
- Weighing and photographing of fish should be carried out within social distancing guidelines.
- All payments should be made electronically.
Based on the guidelines available: I will also carry Hand Sanitiser and Anti-bacterial wipes. Any equipment used by clients will be cleaned before and after the session. Disposable gloves and face masks can be used if requested/necessary.
I will carry my own rod and any advice will be demonstrated from a safe distance.
PLEASE NOTE: All electronic payments for the session must be paid in advance of the day.
These are difficult times for all, but I will continue to do my utmost to ensure that you have an enjoyable day on the water and you learn as much as possible to enhance your enjoyment of our great sport. I would just ask that you please follow the GOVERNMENT ADVICE and the ADVICE FOR FRESHWATER ANGLERS on the Angling trust website.
PLEASE CONTACT ME IF YOU WISH TO DISCUSS A BOOKING, OPTIONS FOR THE DAY AND NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS.

“I’d recommend Geoff to anyone. He gave us an educational and thoroughly enjoyable day on a stunningly beautiful stretch of river. Geoff obviously has a great deal of knowledge and experience, and a huge love of rivers, fish and fishing, but perhaps more importantly for us he showed a lot of patience and skill in taking two complete beginners and succeeding in getting us fishing. His calm observations and tips really helped us to noticeably improve throughout the day. From my first contact with Geoff when we were arranging the day, to the end of the day itself, he was a gentleman and a pleasure to deal with.”
